    You mention that “subcontractors” usually will not have lien rights on owner-occupied residential property. We hired a painter to paint the interior of our home. Is this painter considered a “contractor” since they were not hired as a sub by a general contractor? If they are not considered a “subcontractor”, do they have lien rights on owner-occupied residential property?
